Rust-Tex Collection

I was thrilled to find out that my little work "Spring Rites of the Turtle" is one of 24 works that will travel in Lois Jarvis's Rust-Tex Collection Exhibit.
Here is a detail of the work, a close up the the little turtle. This is a highly embellished work with a lot of ideas going on.
The turtle is a stacked threadpainting. There is a layer of thread ends between the hooped cotton and brown chiffon. The work was thread painted and then cut away to reveal the messy threads.....that was fun. Then, he was cut out and applied to the rest of the work.

Love the turtle, and the technique of cutting away to expose the threads...but where is the rusted fabric? My rusted fabric is always so brown, streaky, and rusty looking...I didn't see any of that in this piece...perhaps it is not in the close up? I am going to try your journal idea...have so many "pretty" journals that I find hard to use..as they are just so fancy.
